Who Am I?

I’m fascinated by faces, by the things we all share that make us human and by the infinite variety and nuance that makes each of us so different from one other. Though I enjoy painting still life and landscape, and occasionally become obsessed by something like Carmina Burana (see above) or lost socks (where do they all go???) or friesian cows, portraits have been my major interest since I first painted my mother in 1980.

My most recent exhibition, "O Fortuna", was inspired by the music and lyrics of Carmina Burana.

My current passion is site specific work for public spaces. (See Murals.) I love to work LARGE and in sympathy with the architecture.

This is the direction I would like to take my work in future.

A few factoids:

Native Californian, Irish dad, American mom, moved to Bahrain in Sept. 2005.

Lived in Britain for 22 years before that.,

English husband,Richard, and English kids, SImon 20 and Lucy, 18. All lovely!

BA in Fine Art degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz, 1976

MA in Drawing as Process, Kingston University, UK, 2003, and started playing around with the computer.

Shown my work in galleries throughout California, in Washington, D.C., and in Britain, both in one-person shows and in group shows, such as the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London and in the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco..

Most recent show, " O Fortuna", at Seef Mall Gallery, May 2007.

Since I began teaching a watercolour class in 1992, nurturing creativity in others has become as important to me as doing my own artwork. For years I taught through Kingston Adult Education, and ran Life Drawing Workshops at Kingston University. Now I teach privately.

Founded AwaliArts, a group of artists and small painting and drawing school for adults in Bahrain, 2006.

I love to travel and draw on location in new places. Currently, I am setting up a series of drawing and painting workshop/holidays to run in Oman, Jordan and perhaps Yemen. What else... ,love to ski and hike and dance, miss my dog, oh... and my kids!, miss Richmond Park and my pals back home. (where's home, a confusing concept) I sing with a choir, and I'm hopeless, but I enjoy it anyway... Basically all is well and I'm happy with my lot.
