camels and a mural based on the ONe Thousand and one Arabian nights.

This is Stuart Habley, the wonderful carpenter and myself, having just installed the first "window" in the Homework Centreof the Redwood City Library. July 21, 2006

A windowless room in the architecturally beautiful Redwood City Library was being transformed from a dark storeroom into a Teen Homework Centre. I was invited to enliven the space, and the first thought I had was to simply knock some windows into it. This was impossible, so I asked a carpenter to copy the design of the other library windows and painted a "literary landscape" beyond". I had hoped to do 5 of these, but sadly the commission remains incomplete, and I have only completed the first. It is based on "the One Thousand and ONe Arabian Nights", so I was able to incorporate some of my new Bahriani images of camels, mosques, palm trees and bits of Arabic writing. I do love the idea of litereary landscape and would welcome the opportunity to work on murals for other libraries in the future.
